Worship for August 24th.
Sunday we will start on the “Generation Xodus” journey; see more about this journey of faith in Andy’s Pastor’s Note below.
We will also be welcoming the Cupp Family as new members at the 8:20 service as well as the Bourbons and the Paynes at the 10:50 service. Come help welcome them to the Campbell family.
Don’t forget that this Sunday is also promotion Sunday. Children aged 2 through 5th grade will be promoted to the next Sunday School class during the 8:20 service. All children who fall in these age groups be seated in the sanctuary for the 8:20 service. We will be providing nursery services for children under the age of two.
“But Wait!” (As they say in the TV infomercials.) That’s not all! At 11:00 a.m. the All-Church Picnic will begin. There will be great food, the inflatable will be up for the kids and there will be a Sponge Toss with many of the Campbell staff offering themselves as targets!
If this isn’t enough – you’ve got to come to hear and see the “New Piano!”
Now, can you think of any reason not to be here on Sunday morning?
Pastor’s Note.
Hello All!
You have probably heard of Generation X. Now get ready to meet Generation Xodus.
Starting Sunday, Campbell UMC is going to journey through the wilderness with the Hebrew people as they make their way toward the Promised Land. Melissa and I will preach on themes drawn from the book of Exodus each Sunday, and during the week the whole church will be invited to use Exodus for our personal Bible study, as well.
The story starts this Sunday with Exodus 1:8 – 2:10. There is a new generation of Hebrews in Egypt, and life has changed. The Pharaoh does not remember the “glory days” when Joseph was around, and is afraid of losing his power. Acting on this fear, he enslaves the Hebrews and oppresses them ruthlessly.
However, God does not act on fear, but rather on love. And God loves the next generation of Hebrews as much as Joseph’s generation. God chooses five fabulous females and works in and through them to begin a “journey of a lifetime” – a journey that will take Generation Xodus out of Egypt and into the wilderness.
There is an outline of the series’ scripture references in the newsletter this week, including both Sunday and weekday readings. There is great power in a community of faith reading together from the Holy Scriptures.
So come to worship, invite a friend, and celebrate the miracle of God’s presence throughout the journey – in the midst of death, uncertainty, complaint, disobedience, doubt – God is there every step of the way.
Grace and Peace, Andy B.
