Hey all of you wonderful volunteers! Don’t forget that this Saturday at 7:00 pm we’re celebrating you with an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza! The show will start at 7:00 with some Ritz-cracker inspired treats following. Don’t miss it!

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or just getting started, this show is for you. We can’t wait to see you Saturday night!

Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.

The quote above is attributed to Lau-Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher and central figure of Taoism. Reflect on it for a moment, its simplicity, its clarity. The old master, in just a few words, illuminates a profound truth.

Every task, no matter how daunting, has a starting point. When the entirety of the task overwhelms, focus on the first step. And proceed from there.

Consider what this means when the task in question is Christian discipleship. Discipleship is a daunting task, indeed; making the reign of God real on earth as it is in heaven is not a simple Saturday afternoon chore. We think, “Surely I am far too insignificant to make any kind of impact on this monumental task.”

Well, if I might quote Sherman T. Potter, “Horse hockey!” would be my response.

Do not let the length of the journey prevent you from taking the first step. You CAN make a difference; you CAN change the world; you CAN do things that are not humanly possible. As Melissa reminded us Sunday, we are called to “Do the Divine.”

Because of Construction this year, we have decided to forego the tree decorating contest and have an Advent Workshop instead.  This would involve activities such as:

1.  Cookie Decorating – sugar cookies, cans of decorator icing with tips.

2.  Angel Ornament – white poster-board or paper plates, glue, glitter and Poloroid camera. 

3.  Advent Wreath – small wire frame, garland and candles.

4.  Face Painting – non-toxic paint and brushes.

We need your help!!  As a class or committee, you could sign up to run one of these activities or come up with your own.  We would ask that you provide the materials needed for the activity and the people to run it.  WE NEED 5-6 MORE ACTIVITIES.

The schedule for the afternnon would be:

3:30 – All gather in the sanctuary to sing a couple of Christmas carols, bless the activities and then separate as follows.

3:45 – The adults will decorate the sanctuary and the children will go to the gym for crafts and games.

4:45 – Soup Supper

5:30 - Meet back in the sanctuary for more singing and the lighting of the Christmas tree.
