Campbell UMC-Mail for July 2, 2008
SUNDAY WORSHIP, JULY 6TH. This Sunday we resume our normal schedule of 3 worship services (8:20, 9:30, and 10:50 a.m.). Andy Bryan will be presenting a sermon entitled “You Make Me Feel Like Dancin'” based on the scripture of Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30. If you missed last Sunday’s worship service we want you to ‘come on down’ to hear what Andy has to say this week.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for “Biker Sunday” on July 20th. The Christian Motorcycle Association will be leading the service in with music and faith.
I originally thought that I would use this note as a place to list everyone that Erin, Cori, Wes, and I want to thank for the warm welcome we are receiving here at Campbell. But then I realized that there is not nearly enough space to do that here.
So may I just say “Thank You” to you all? The house is beautiful, the staff is fantastic, the children’s time Sunday morning rocked, the worship service was wonderful, the carnival afterwards was so much fun, the youth group’s fireworks party was a “blast” (hee hee), and you all have embraced the Bryan family with such openness and warmth that we are truly beginning to feel at home after only one week.
So thank you, everyone. Thank you for saying “Yes” to God’s call. Thank you for putting Christ first in your lives. Thank you for choosing Campbell UMC as the place where you gather together to be sent out. Thank you for continuing to remind me of your name! Thank you for giving of yourself in prayer, presence, gifts, and service so that others’ thirst for God might be quenched. Thank you!
Grace and Peace,
WHAT’S NEW ON THE CAMBLOG.
Andy Bryan’s sermon on June 29th has been posted to the CamBlog and is available if you missed it. You can use the built-in player on the website or download it to your own media player. Please share this with your friends and family by emailing them a link to the website.
If you were by Campbell on Monday or Tuesday of this week you may have noticed the large pile of shredded mulch in the church parking lot. Each year we have to replace the mulch on the children’s playground to meet the standards of the Bureau of Child Services so that we can continue to have a safe pre-school / child development program. This year we purchased about 130 cubic yards of “child-friendly” shredded mulch to spread on the playground. This cost $2400 with the cost being shared between Small Wonders ($1800) and the Church ($600). Our thanks to members of the Campbell Youth Group, the Pastoral Staff, Don Nance and others who helped spread the mulch – we like to think of them as Campbell’s “Mulchkins.” J.J. Cybulski donated use of a bobcat with a scoop to help move the mulch from the parking lot to the playground. You can find pictures of the “Mulchkins” and the playground on the photo website.
WHAT’S HAPPENING! The Campbell Calendar has a complete listing of all activities.
Friday, July 4th – the Church office is closed for Independence Day.
Sunday, July 6th – the Campbell Youth High School Mission trip will leave after the 8:20 a.m. worship service. They will return on Saturday, July 12th about 4:00 p.m. and would appreciate seeing friendly faces when they get off the bus.
Small Group Meetings. Sign up in the Hospitality Room for Small Group meetings with Andy Bryan. You can find a complete schedule of meetings here.
“Christmas in July” It’s time again for “Christmas in July” at Campbell. We collect toys in July that will be donated to Crosslines for their December toy drive. You can find a complete list of toys needed in the Campbell News newsletter this week. One will be available on the website shortly. Please bring your unwrapped toy to the church in July and place them under the tree in the hallway. If you wish, you can make a donation in lieu of purchasing a toy; make your check to Campbell UMC with a notation that it is for “Christmas in July.”
Radical Hospitality Conference. Wesley UMC is hosting a District-wide summit on Radical Hospitality on Saturday, October, 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We’d like to have at least 5 people from Campbell attend and return all “fired up” and ready to be leaders in this vital ministry area.
Help Wanted! Servers for “The Kitchen.” Four volunteers are needed to serve at The Kitchen on Thursday, July 10 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The volunteers serve dinner and assist in cleaning up. This opportunity is great for families with older children and youth. Call the church office 881-2018 or e-mail Melissa at email@example.com if interested.
