Our theme for the Advent season this year is It’s All About the Presence and if you’ve had your eyes open around the Campbell building the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed some flyers and displays touting a web site, itsallaboutthepresence.org. Rather than focusing on presents and gift giving (an estimated $300-500 billion industry in the U.S.), we want to invite our congregation (and anyone else who hears) to focus on what really matters this season: the presence of God, of family, and of each other. In that vein, we would encourage you to check out the web site linked above to see some ideas on alternative gift giving. The people of Campbell UMC will be invited to partner with a town in Haiti, both by donating in honor of family and friends (instead of buying stuff) and also by asking family and friends to give a gift to Haiti in your honor.
For more information on how to participate, check out the display in the Hospitality Room this Sunday. Together, let’s focus on the presence this season as we look for the presence of Christ in our family, friends, and in ourselves.
